I started Kababaihan.Net a year ago. The thought behind it was simple: to create a site that deals with the everyday struggle of a woman, whatever race/nationality/profession she has. Her problems and issues go beyond her skin colour and ideology. All in all women undergo, more or less, the same exprience. Puberty, school, career, marriage or singlehood, giving birth/childless, getting old, menopause, senility, dying. The difference betwen a man and a woman is purely physical/biological. But when it comes to countless of topics or issues that matter to us, we, the women, share it with the men. Perhaps, our approach is different. Tactics vary. And emotions are at stake. There is racism/xenophobia, mothering, and unfortunately, the never-ending and burning issue--the unfair treatment between man and woman in our society despite our grandmothers' fight for women's liberation a century ago. Not only this site deals with feminism. But it serves as an outlet of expression as a woman. Honestly, I don't call myself a feminist. And I don't wear it as a badge. It is akin to labelling, which I despise. One cannot put a person in a box. What is Kababaihan.Net ? + Kababaihan.Net is the female population + Kabababaihan.Net is all about the women with all the clichés and abnormalities + Kababaihan.Net is not mail-order bride (though it doesn't have anything against those women and men who engage in it) + Kababaihan.Net is not labelling, stereotyping and boxes + Kababaihan.Net is about you and me (regardless of your race, age and sometimes, sex) Who is behind Kababaihan.Net? Kababaihan is a Filipino term for the women-hood. And the one who is reponsible for this site is a babae. Learn to know more about her here. A blog has been set up to document what's the latest in women-hood, racism, family, mothering, etc. Credit goes to 1001 Fonts for the font Chick.
